Exclamation New HTC Trophy, but the camera lens plastic cover is already...

Bought the HTC Trophy about 4 months ago, LOVED IT, took awesome photos and videos and all around great phone - as the updates kept rolling in.

But, now all of a sudden the camera quality is CRAP. The images are dull, blurred, and not crisp and bright in the slightest (as they used to be).

Took it in for repair, the idiots told me nothing was wrong and sent it back.

After further inspection under good light it seems as though there are a large number of extremely find scratches of some sort on the lens cover.. but no where else on the phone. Now I know this phone has been taken care of because it is mine, it only ever gets put on flat surfaces and has a cover on it so the camera stuff never touches anything! The flash cover hasn't got a scratch, nothing else has.

Seems to me as though HTC either use cheap crappy parts (in particular for the camera lens cover), or if there is an "anti-glare" film/layer on that lens cover it is cheap and nasty and has begun to scratch off with only brushes past fabric like pants and t-shirts and micro fibre cloths.

So my question is, does anyone know if the lens cover is plastic, or glass? And is there an anti-glare film/layer on them? Has anyone else run into this issue? Has anyone found a remedy?

I google'd it and someone with a Nokia had a similar problem and used some stuff called Displex Display Polish which removed their scratches, but then some things I found on google said to steer clear of Displex.

I just want my camera back to being good/great! Instead of looking like photos taken on a webcam from 1990.

    HELP PLEASE!

    Hey

Exact same situation here. I have a Wildfire that i have taken good care of, and now i have a ton of micro scratches on the camera lens resulting in blurry images. I ordered some Displex Display Polish (red tube) to repair what i assume is a plastic lens cover, but i received Displex Touchscreen Polish (yellow tube). I used it anyway even though the lens isn't exactly a touchscreen. The scratches are still there but the images are clearly better now. The images are still not as good as when the phone was new.

Yep I ended up getting the red tube, used a tiny tiny amount with a microfibre cloth and the scratches came right off.
Your before image looks exactly like mine did, now my camera is back to being how it was when I bought it.

Found out what the issue was (or from what I can gather); HTC simply use crap technology when putting the "anti-glare" layer onto the plastic lens cover, this anti-glare layer scratches off with repetitive brushes against any material whether it be a finger or a microfibre cloth. They probably did it on the cheap. The only way to fix it is to use that Displex Display Polish to polish off the entire anti-glare layer leaving the bare plastic - and if you get glare in a photo outside simply use your hand to shelter above the camera lens and you should be fine.

Glad you got yours sorted too! But if I was you I'd send the wrong tube back and get the right one, the touch screen stuff wouldn't be the same as the display polish and probably doesn't work as good.
