Default How to update the HTC phone to Windows 8.1 Update 1

    Hi All,

I have an HTC 8S phone that is currently running Windows 8.1 developer version (OS version 8.10.12382.878) that also includes a 25GB SD card.

The free storage is shown below:
    Phone: 410 MB Free
    SD Card: 20 GB Free

I have seen a lot of articles on the internet that state that HTC have no plans to update the HTC 8S phones to the latest Windows 8.1 Update 1 version. HTC are only updating the HTC 8X phones. If this is true I am worried that my phone will also not get any future security updates that might be included in Windows 8.1 Update 1 and any future Windows updates.

Can you please confirm if HTC have plans to update the HTC 8S phone to the latest Windows 8.1 Update 1 version. If HTC will not update the HTC 8S phone I will need to buy another mobile phone and it will never ever be a HTC phone.

    Thanks You,
    Colin

Well what I heard,is that update is not possible due to low storage..which doesn't have to deal with phone/card storage..but some other internal storage.. So what they tweeted was that htc 8s customers need to wait until they get the official Htc 8.1 update... That will update drivers.. N the u can update to 8.1 update 1

Could we get an official answer to this please? Thank you Adyita for your contribution but this is clearly not a satisfactory response.

I am also an HTC 8S user and am perturbed by the apparent lack of support for the device. From what is apparent on the internet; on tech news websites and on the forums, the HTC 8S will not ever be receiving windows phone 8.1. I have contacted HTC regarding this issue and the only response that I received was that they 'did not know' whether the phone would be receiving the update. This is clearly not satisfactory and it seemed as if they were just avoiding the issue rather than giving a straight answer.

When I bought the phone (which still has a year left to run on its contract) I assumed that it would be supported with all the latest software updates. If HTC has decided not to update the phone with 8.1 it will have effectively been rendered obselete. This is not what I signed up for! I feel that this is in some way a breach of contract; if not explicitly, then the implicit agreement agreement between consumer and manufacturer has been violated by their sudden withdrawal of support for this phone. The 8S is the only windows phone not to get 8.1!

I intend to contact consumer rights organisations on this issue and will be writing a letter to 'you and yours' on BBC Radio 4 highlighting the inadequacies of HTC's response regarding this issue. If it does turn out that the phone is not supported, I also will not be buying HTC again.

Hi, I'm not sure whether you have resolved his.
I have updated my HTC 8S to the latest Windows 8.1 Update 1.
You will need about 780mb free in your internal phone storage.
I had to do a hard reset to have enough space.
I now have live folders and cortana working (I'm on O2 UK).

P.S. also you will need to be on preview for developers.

    Thanks :-)

I was also able to install the Windows 8.1 Update onto my HTC 8S phone (sim free phone with EE phone network). I first needed to do a hard reset which gave me approximately 770 Mb free on my phone. I also deleted everything off my 25GB SD card. After the hard reset I installed the Microsoft "Preview for Developers" app onto my SD card and checked for phone updates. The updates where downloaded and then installed. I've now got Cortana working.

    Thanks for your help.

As I said... I was also able to update my phone after the second update(not official) that was available at September end... N yes I also have to hard reset... Cause it needed 537mb of phone memory...
Still HTC needs to give the official update for 8s...for its drivers..
