Default Help/ advice wanted with Apps

    Hi
Im new here and i hope that iv got this in the right place
I have an HTC Sensation Z710e
I am into amature radio and would like to down load some GPS and radio associated Apps.
I am a bit worried about some of these Apps, they seem to want to know far too much info about me!!!! ie access to my phone book, full internet access an ability to alter settings on my phone etc etc.
Have i got his wrong??? one App seems to be able to take and send pictures with out me even knowing it has done so!!!!
I am very worried about what is under the PERMISIONS tab on the app add ie all the things that the app might do with out me knowing. One App was a GPS with a Heads Up Display that could take pictures and send them with all the location info as well.
    please help
    Thanks
    James
    Update 3/11/11
I have been looking through all the Battery Apps and think that Battery Monitor Widget Pro and System Tuner Pro by 3C seem to be good BUT i would like to know if any one else on the forum has had any experience with these two apps.
My fone is NOT rooted (yet) but may be soon.
    Thanks
    James

    Hey James Bond,

I've seen a lot of people who have the same worry that you do, and some of these you have to use your own judgment, but if a radio program is trying to take pictures or change settings, I would definitely say not to download it. There are a lot of shifty, sketchy apps out there that have very little functionality, but when you install them they have a LOT of these strange permissions. Alternatively, sometimes an app has a reason to have these things, such as features that you might not know about, so you have to pick and choose what seems right and what doesnt.

In short, I would avoid these types of programs.

So basicly the less "permissions" the better realy. The "permission" that realy bugs me is the" Full Internet access needed" I am very interested in the battery monitor apps namely Battery Monitor Widget Pro, it seems to be the Swiss army knife of them all and has very low "permission" requirment.
It also seems that the "pay for use" apps seem to be better than the free ones.
Im now looking into this "ROOTING" of phones and what it might mean for me.
AS you can see im VERY green to this
    Thanks for your help

becoming a root user isn't going to help solve your problem. It sounds like your looking into pirating paid apps. If so, you don't need to be a root user to do so. You can simply just download them with a simple google search.

If a program is popular and has good ratings It's probably pretty safe.

I will say one word the more permissions the more it will help you to save an unwanted things.
