    Default Problem stopped

    Hi,

I´ve been posting on this thread before - but now it seems like my problem is solved.

I installed the latest android software AND put a tiny papers slip under the simcard. Either one of those 2 did solve my problem, and it has been running without any shutdowns for nearly a month now.

Gotta love that phone (when its on...)

Not really what you would expect from a device in this price class, would you?

Two weeks now no reply from HTC to my fourth fault, I got a call back promissed for Monday(yesterday), still waiting for this to happen!

Call me a nutter but I refuse to "repair" my device myself when it is still under warranty! Happy with a workaround on any old device though!

I understand that this is an official HTC forum, why are there no HTC officials posting here?

If one of the tricks (Paper under battery or SIM card) solve the problem why is this not tested by HTC themselves and if successfull, implemented in the manufacturing process? Embarrassing enough that "normal" people have to tell them the solution to their problems!

Unhappy I too have same problem but

I too have the problem of getting off at particular locations. After contacting HTC customer care and support team there is no use except taking leaves from office. finally I have done the following
    1) clearing the web history in the google account and disabling the web history option
    2) every time clearing the history of handset in "manage applications" - running applications" perticularly Maps, internet, market applications

Now freqquency has drastically came down

I hope HTC may solve this bug permanaently till that time we dont have any option
    Bye

I have similar problem. It worked OK for a couple of months, then it just restarted for no apparen reason. Since that time it has gotten progressively worse. I tried formatting SD care and doing factory reset, but it has just gotten worse. It used to happen every 2-3 days, now it happened 5 times in 2 days! F*ck... I don't believe it is associated with HEAT/CPU usage as I found on some forums, because it restarts itself overnight with "silent" profile and wifi/data communication off... I can play 3D games for 20 minutes and all is OK. Also, I don't believe it is contact problem, it resetted overnight just sitting on my night desk, while it worked fine in car cradle shaking for 12 hours This is either a software glitch or bad engineering, not just a contact issue... I'd really hate to have to root it and install Revolution ROM or such and I don't believe HTC will repair it... so far they haven't even acknowledged the problem! I will never buy a phone from HTC again. No matter how much those Samsungs look cheap and plasticky compared to HTC, I will be forced to switch to Samsung... This issue is also present on regular Desire.

    Hi
I m using htc evo 3d now. I have same problem about 2 week. I tired to tried to solve this problem.
I just understand that my phone is turning off when it is in my pocket. When I m using screen film for protect it. It wasn't turning it self off.
I thought that the problem is screen.
Is there any one have this problem who is using that screen protection thing?

In the end after upgrading to new Sense 3 ROM, it started restarting like every 5 minutes. That was enough so I sent it to service. I waited 3 weeks (ugh) and today I got it back. Sense 2.1 installed, the slip says they replaced mainboard and another smaller board... hope it works... so in the end it was most probably a hardware issue... now just to get OTA to Sense 3 ... and install my 400+ applications

My Desire HD also rebooted every 5 mins after the sense 3.0/Android 2.3.5 update. I removed my SD card and inserted a blank one and it fixed it. I'm guessing an app on my SD card isn't compatible with the new version (or some random file is causing grief), as I noticed a lot of errors in logcat that don't appear when the blank card is inserted. So now I have to either remove apps 1 by 1, or update them all and hope it fixes it... though I'm leaning towards installing a custom ROM like the Revolution one..

    Default Sloved!!!

I've been having the same issue. Firstly, HTC, you should be ashamed of yourselves, when we disassembled the HTC Desire HD, we were shocked at the poor build quality!! FYI Those 'copper connections' you see on the battery cover and SIM cover are painted on using a metallic spray-paint (and can quickly wear off)! Anyway, I have done a very in-depth analysis including sacrificing my phone and having our IT guys use it as a test subject. Here are the main issues we found that triggered the shut downs.

The battery is cheap and although it 'appears' to hold it's power (so you think it's charged), it's amperage drops considerably and quickly, they've used really cheap metals and chemicals in the battery construction and it quickly starts to deteriorate each time it's recharged, or if it sits unused for a long period of time (like in the phone-shops stock room!). So why is this causing shut downs you ask????The phone has built in software that monitors the battery power and shuts the phone down when it gets low (it's bad to completely deplete this type of battery, so it shuts itself off before it's completely flat) . One of the things the program monitors is the Amp-power of the battery (for those who don't know what an Amp is, think of a garden hose; 'Volts' are the water and Amps are the water pressure). With low Amps, the phone thinks the battery is dead and shuts down (even if it shows a full charge!!) You can test to see if you have this issue very easily... If you plug your phone in, it will resolve the problem. once you unplug it will start shutting down again. If your phone only does it randomly it's because the battery is is on it's way out, it will get worse!

What really annoys me is this isn't an accidental issue... A) I 100% guarantee they are well aware of this issue B) Using such a cheap battery is a conscious choice by HTC... Maybe they have a contract with a 3rd party battery manufacturer they can't get out of... Or maybe they designed the phone to fail within a year so you would be forced to by a new one... Either way, I am going to have the full results of our research published here in Australia and if anyone is considering legal action (as this is clearly negligence and HTC has clearly avoided acknowledging the issue), feel free to use it.

And if you buy another HTC phone, at VERY best you are looking at about a year (maybe 2 if you hardly use your phone and remove the battery and store it in a cool place, like the fridge, when it's not in use) before this happens again.

P.S- Those of you that mentioned it 'gets worse on cold days'.. this is also a telltale sign it's a deteriorated battery.

Oh... and when I took my findings to my service provider and requested a new battery, I was told HTC doesn't cover the battery in the 1 year phone warranty (I think it's only covered for 30 days). FYI: Motorola use top quality materials and batteries in there new smartphones, and warranty everything for a full year. I've never used a Motorola Smartphone, but since Google purchased them last year, it seems they've spared no expense on materials, so I think it's going to be my next phone.
