Default HTC Desire HD - Turning itself off!

    Hi

I've had my HTC Desire HD for just under 2 weeks and it keeps turning itself off...

It goes through phases - it will be ok for a couple of days then today for example - I keep putting it to one side after using it and then pick it up again and it has turned off.

Today - it is restarting to the White / Green HTC logo screen then turning right off again. But then intermittantly it is staying on for a little bit...

I've gone to try and get it replaced but it's out of stock...

Has this happened to anyone else?

I have the same problem with my Desire (not HD). I think it might be the baterry that is not making good contact. Today I put a piece of paper over the battery to put more pressure and till now it didn't shut off.

Mine doesn't but it seems to have a problem with reception. I don;t know whether it's a carrier problem or the phone is faulty. When I put it on the table it can go from HSPA to roaming withing a minute and go back to HSPA. No matter if I'm in a bigger city or village. I got internet plan that depends on my reception and it pisses me off that I can't get on the web even though I'm quite close to the carrier antenna. Any thoughts?

    Default me too...........

I too have had the horrendously intermittent issue with the desire hd randomly turning itself off whenever it pleases. Today it turned itself off in the middle of the night meaning I had no alarm clock to wake me up for work meaning I was late. If I lose my job as a result I hope HTC realise they will have to employ me to make amends!!

Today was the first time in over a week that it had happened-I first contacted hTC about it in mid November and got a reply 10 days later suggesting a hard re-set. A quick Google search reveals that there are quite a few peple experiencing this problem with a wide range of possibilities. mine has mainly turned itself off when it's freezing cold outside but can be running any variety of apps-the first time it was a problem I was trying to listen to music on the walk home. It has also turned off when running nothing but minimum apps-and no I am not running any 3rd party task/power manager

Have yet to try the hard reset as been very busy but will do in the coming days. Also worth noting that when it switches back on it refuses to quickboot (even when enabled) and re-sets all messaging preferences to default (I never use T9 for texting but there it is every time this happens.) To be I think it is a software issue rather than hardware related but I'm not an expert with mobile hardware....

Right despite having a million other things to do tonight I've been forced to do a hard-reset after my phone powered itself off no less than 16 times today!! This includes when plugged in to charge, the lot.

So far, after an hour of trying to remember what apps I had installed (moving them to sd card didn't seem to work) and wondering if there's any way of getting back all my text conversations that I had been assured would also be backed up it appears to be fixed. However the first 2 weeks I had the phone I never experienced this problem so again will keep posting updates. In the meantime I will direct HTC to this thread as well as the one over at

Desire HD - Shutting down when locked - Android Forums

so they can start taking tech support a bit more seriously. I mean you would have thought they'd employ at least one person to rep them on these sort of forums-I know loads of people that have been put off buying various smartphones including this one due to internet forums-just look at Iphone 4 antennae problems as well as worries about DHD battery life

    Default My experience with this...

I have the same issue with the phone randomly shutting down due to flat battery. It has happened several times since the last S/W update. Last night, for example, the phone had a full battery and the display was on 30 second time-out. Woke up in the morning and phone had shut-down due to flat battery. I did a hard reset 2 weeks ago and, until today, the phone had behaved. If this was a hardware power management issue I would not expect it to be such an intermittent problem. The latest update does have a number of bugs, including freezing on SMS replies, so I would guess it's another bug in S/W..About time these bugs were sorted.

I had this happen to me. I have HTC Desire HD which I acquired about 10 days ago. If the phone was not used for about 10 minutes it would switch itself off!

This morning I switched the phone off myself, removed the battery, the sim card and the memory card. After 5 minutes I replaced them and switched on the phone. It is now 9 hours later and the phone has not switched itself off. Hopefully the problem is cured.

Have problem not with shut-down but with unexpected restart (phone restarts itself randomly) restarts couple times per day not annoying but when Battery charge is under 10% the back of DHD is turning very hot without charger pluged in

    Unhappy DHD randomly turns off

I'm having the same problems, started only a couple of days ago. I've had it for about a month, I haven't dropped it nor have I exposed the phone to any kind of stress.

First noticed it when I set my alarm and it turned off overnight. Since then, it turns off in a matter of seconds when I turn it back on and start using it straight away. If I turn it on and don't touch it, it can stay on for longer than a few seconds, sometimes a couple of hours.

Additionally, when I first got the phone, the software was seamless. I downloaded 3 popular apps, and since then the phones performance deteriorated sharply, lagging between screens as well as input.

I did a reset first through the software with no luck.

I took out the battery and sim, put them back in and did a hard reset. It's only been a few minutes but so far so good... I will keep you updated on the result. I have left it unplugged to see if charging for long periods has anything to do with it?

I have noticed that the cover for the battery is somewhat flimsy and difficult to remove and put back on. I have pushed the the battery cover down hard to ensure that the copper connections? are firmly connected.

Having had a quick google, it seems this is a common problem for some time. Sad to see that there does not seem to be any solutions or troubleshooting from HTC
