From HTC Website link ... HTC Desire - Protecting your phone with a screen lock

    Forgot your unlock screen pattern?
If you have forgotten the screen unlock pattern, you have up to five attempts to try and unlock your phone. If this fails, you can unlock your phone by entering your Google Account user name and password.

On the unlock screen, attempt to enter your unlock pattern five times.
When prompted to wait for 30 seconds, tap OK.
If the display goes off, press the POWER button to turn the display back on, and then press the bar on the lock screen and slide your finger down to unlock the screen.
Tap the Forgot Pattern button in the lower right corner when it appears.
Enter your Google Account name and password, and then tap Sign in.
You are then prompted to create a new screen unlock pattern. If you no longer want to use a screen unlock pattern to secure your phone, tap Cancel.

If you haven't cleaned the screen or been doing too much with the phone, you could try tilting the phone slightly to see if you can still see the shape in finger smudge.

The draw-pattern-to-unlock is the least secure security mechanism EVER - I managed to get into 3 peoples phones in max two attempts each to prove it.

If you can't get in, take the phone and proof of purchase to a shop and see if they can help.

Once you do get in to your phone, you should immediately switch to using a pass code or password - these have been supported since 2.2

Question Unlock pattern on Motorola Milestone

I can see the finger smudges on my daughter's phone but can't figure out the pattern. I started to just demand that she give it to me but don't want to hurt her and make her think I don't trust her. She's only 14 and I've noticed that she has been going out of the room when she talks on the phone which is not normal for her. Can you help?

there are 9 dots total in 3 rows of 3 each
the finger prints show starting at the middle dot going to the bottom middle then the middle dot on the right going to the middle of the the left dot. Almost like a cross. From what I understand about the motorola milestone you can't use a dot more than once in the pattern. Any help would be appreicated.
