Default A query regarding Android phones

As I want to buy HTC Desire, I'm asking questions/queries arise in my mind. Now, I've some queries. Hope I'll learn a lot from here

So far I know while the applications are minimized in Android, it doesn't use RAM. But don't know how do the OS holds the applications.

I need to be clear about the following things-
Suppose, I've some IM clients (gTalk, Yahoo Messenger, facebook etc). There might have a single application all together but for this example they are different apps. Now, I want to chat simultaneously using all of them. If I opened gTalk and do chat for 5 minutes. Then I opened Yahoo Messenger and start chatting. What will happen? Will gTalk goes to offline? or it will be in active state being though it is minimized and use resources?

    Hi Shoeb,
I am not a pro with android and recently started using the HTC Desire. AFAIK, the IM clients when minimized, retains connectivity with the host server but the app does not continue to run when minimized. Hence, the app will be in active mode, but will not consume any system resource. You will continue to be indicated as online to all your contacts. Once you are sent a message, the app pops up and starts using resources (minimal though as these are not resource hungry apps). Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Awinash

    Hi awinash,

Thanks a lot. But It seems unusual not to consume any system resource even if the app still in active state. If the app doesn't use system resource how will it response if someone knocks me? Is there any way to check which application as using how much resources?
