Default G1 booting into bootloader automatically

I've recently purchased a lightly used G1 from a cell phone reseller on ebay (I know, probably not the best idea, but feedback for purchased G1s was good). After charging the battery, everything was working fine. Used it for about 3 hours, and decided to reboot the phone. Powered it off from the menu, not pulling the battery. Upon turning it back on, it goes straight to the bootloader. Any reboots after that all go to the bootloader. The issue is not with the camera button, because I can still get to recovery as well as the soft-reboot, which cannot be done if the camera button is pressed. Re-flashing to RC29 does not solve the problem either. What I have found to work is leaving the battery out for a good 12 hours. Popping it back in and powering on boots the phone just fine. Had it working again last night, and T-Mobile must have pushed down the OTA update, since I was on RC29, so the phone rebooted itself overnight. Woke up to the bootloader screen again.

This seems to be a hardware issue with power being supplied to the phone, since leaving the battery out for 10-12 hours will allow it to boot again. Left it out for 4 hours this morning, and still no boot, so it has to be a long time without power.

Anyone have any insight on what might be causing this?

Did you bring up this issue with the seller before leaving feedback? You should always test the device before allowing the deal to be finalized. Does the seller offer refunds or exchanges? If it's been within the last 45 days {& you paid thru PayPal} you can always file a grievance. I would demand the seller exchange or refund. You paid for a working device, but did not get one. If you file with PayPal, you are sure to get your money back, as they most always side with the buyer!

I've gotten in contact with the seller and they are issuing an exchange, phone was sent back yesterday, so the issue should be resolved now. Apparently my emails weren't getting through. After sending an email from a different account, everything has been fine. My experience with paypal has been different, as they seem to side with the seller, that's where they make their money.

As long as the seller is exchanging it you should be good. It's odd that PayPal sides with seller for you. Most everyone complains that PayPal always sides with the buyer. I personally got screwed on a couple occasions becaus PayPal gave the money back to the buyer & I never got my stuff back. When I reported it to PayPal, they say that it's not their problem.
