Question Experience of the Eris/Desire so far?

I'm interested in hearing the overseas experience so far the of Droid/Eris. We don't get the Desire in Australia for a little while yet, and I was curious to know if you think it's an advance on the Hero? I loved the Hero, so the Desire has a bit to live up to.

I'm expecting to get one to trial shortly, in the meantime I've only been able to write an introductory story:

    http://www.techstyles.com.au/htc-des.../mobile-phone/

(don't look too hard at the site, it's only days old, and I'm still putting things together, not to mention trying to get the content mass going!)

And on a lighter note, can anyone mention this phone and NOT have the U2 song plant itself in their brain?

I used to have a Hero and now using the Desire.. It is the best *insert random expletive* phone ever, it is so intelligent and I love teh screen size and what it is capable of doing. And yes it is a major leap compared to the Hero

I've had the Desire for a week now, and I can't put it down. It's the most fantastic device I've ever owned (and yes it is a phone too!)

Nothing but problems here on my Eris... ALL sounds (calls, notifications, music player) go totally out all the time and I have to turn it off and back on to get it back... when the sound is working it is way to low. Music volume is all the way up and if there is ANY noise in the room at all you can't hear the music. Virtual keyboard is way to small. I am so disappointed because I believe the phone COULD be so GREAT if it didn't have these problems.

It is agreat toy if you are new to smartphones. I have played with it and added apps etc. Great fun. However actually using it for the traditional stuff is actually a different story.
    Bad:
Reception (on Vodafone UK) - drops calls regularly, and shows poor reception (did not get that with SE C902).
Sound is dreadful through the speaker, and too quiet to listen to anything properly; no equaliser to make it less tinny either.
Video is average (and I'm being kind). The on screen zoom is impossible to do while recording.
Sound recording on Video is absolutely dreadful - totally distorted with anything above ambient noise - my old SE C902 recorded music at gigs really well.
Many contacts are all scrambled up due to insisting on merging your contacts with facebook stuff, but essentially duplicating things in the process.
    Good:
touch keyboard is good, and the predicitive text stuff works well.
Games work well, and the marketplace is great for killing time.

I wish I'd upgraded to a lesser phone and not listened to the Desire hype. I'd have preferred less glitz and more functionality, but it's done and I'm stuck with this embarassing toy.

    PLEASE

    PLEASE

PLEASE PLEASE HTC - sort out this situation

Sincerely meant and I am no trouble maker - just feel very let down.

I love it apart from bugs (primarily with Facebook sync and Exchange sync). Battery life can be better, but oh well, you can't have it all.
