Will the recently announced WinMobile 6.1 be available for download?

I think providers will begin to slowly release it in their own ROM updates, it's already available for the kaiser, and has been ripped from it to be put on other unlocked devices

Does anyone have a link to the download site for Win Mobile 6.1 for the TyTN11 yet?


I have an unlocked UK version of the TyTN11 that I bought on e-Bay. It was originally locked to the service provider Orange (and thus has a lot of their software on it) but the e-bay seller (he'd got it as an unwanted upgrade apparently) unlocked it before dispatch to me and it works fine on the O2 network.

Unfortunately, buying 'nearly new' like this means I can't seem to get software updates from either Orange or O2 and have no proof of purchase for any HTC warranty either. Luckily it works fine (apart from the thing locking up/going very slow intermittently and occasionally which seems to be a known problem) and I saved £100 so I'm pretty happy with my e-Bay experience overall.

But I'd like to get rid of all the Orange software that was preinstalled... Does anyone know if I could download HTCs own version of the WM operating system (without the Orange OEM bits included) from somewhere, ideally in the WM 6.1 guise?

I've registered with the HTC e-Club but there is nothing there under Phone Software Update in the My Download section, and only a couple of HotFixes that I don't need in the Other Downloads section. It's as if they don't recognize my bona-fides as a genuine owner of an HTC branded TyTN11. (I just tried again to register but it says my S/N isn't an HTC branded serial number. I don't understand this... Although the thing came in a box from Orange, as if they were marketing it, it has the normal HTC design and logo on the device and the box says it's an HTC TyTN11 inside (not some funny other name like XDA Stellar or MDA Vario etc.). How much more HTC branded do they want?

HTC will most likely start rolling out their official WM6.1 roms for their devices some time in late summer. At the moment I think they are too busy trying to have a smooth launch of the HTC Touch Diamond. It may sound unfair, but they would rather you upgrade to a new device first before they would want you to upgrade the OS on your current one.

Installed it on my TyTN II. Not good. Several problems, most seem related to Pocket Internet Explorer, an intermittent "press OK to continue loading the contents of this page" message pops up when loading some pages and even when opening some email messages in the built in messaging client. Some DNS resolving difficult also. Very annoying stuff and no significant new functionality.

I tried using PIEPlus to disable scripting and KaiserTweak to turn of threaded SMS but the "press ok" bug persists.

If anybody has found the solution please post. Thank You.

Sad but true...but I must say, the 6.1 for the excalibur thats floating around is sweet!

Excalibur seems nice...... however WAY too bulky for a mobile phone. Makes things too complicated; what happened to simple & nice !

Anyway, if we update our WM 6 to WM 6.1, and don't like it (or it's useless/disfunctional like micronauta's) is there any way to downgrade back?

There's not official way to downgrade it, you'll simply have to find a copy of the original ROM and reinstall it on the device.

I can respect that about the excalibur... I am a big guy, and the smaller/sleek phones kinda get lost in my hands...

I need something with more substance.

Yah... you can just reinstall your providers latest available ROM if you dont like 6.1. But trust me, you will love it.

personally i wanted to get a blackberry at first but then i jus reminded myself dat i jus want a cellphone, n thingz r better when practical.. so i got the touch =)
