I read in some forums that the culprit was (for some at least, including me) the file "iTunes Music Library.xml" in your iTunes folder (e.g. C:\Users\{login_name}\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music Library.xml). Deleting the file allows HTC Sync to load and run (in my case). That file (iTunes Music Library.xml) is created every time you start iTunes, so there's no harm deleting it. The problem is that you must delete prior to sync... every time. Hope HTC takes notice of this.

Just a quick update to say that this problem still exists on 2011-11-30 (w/ HTC Evo 4G). In my case, I first tried uninstalling Adobe AIR 2.7 and installing Adobe AIR 2.6. HTC Sync still crashed with the Debug Error referring to htcUPCTLoader.exe. I moved my "iTunes" folder out of the "My Music" folder and when I restarted HTC Sync and connected my phone, they connected properly. I've not gone back to try AIR 2.7 or the latest (3.1 at this moment) nor have I figured out what to do with my iTunes music---but at least my contacts and appointments are on my phone now. It is sad that this problem--obviously known for over a year based on the messages in this one thread)--still exists.

Thanks guys, it all works after deleting the itunes file.

I updated my HTC sync recently and still the program did not work. Now it is confirmed that it is because of 1) crappy adobe AIR and 2) crappy coding from HTC coders trying to rip data out of itunes music library.

I have created a batch file for win xp users to automate renaming the file back and forth. See attachment for bat file which will automatically rename "iTunes Music Library.xml" to "iTunes Music Library.bak" and allow your htc sync to work. If you double click it again it will rename/restore "iTunes Music Library.bak" to "iTunes Music Library.xml"

NOte: batch file for winXP users only.
If people want win7 batch file let me know and I will tweak it for you.

    cheers

    Audiovue,

I only have 32bit XP and win7 to test with. I assume that a 64bit machine has the same user directory structure as a 32bit machine. If this is not the case then it will not detect the itunes library and exit without any actions.

The batch file suppports both WinXP and Win7 now. It auto detects XP or Win7 and renames "iTunes Music Library.xml" to "iTunes Music Library.bak". If the batch file is ran again, it will rename "iTunes Music Library.bak" back to "iTunes Music Library.xml"

    Enjoy

    Default Thank You ~!!!

Yes, I was having that AAARGH moment trying to figure out why I could not sync my Incredible 2 with my PC, but moving the iTunes library to the desktop, out of the My Music folder did the trick - bless you.

Solution found for HTC Velocity, thanks guys! Moved Itunes folder from Music Folder to Desktop, then sync worked perfectly. HTC were no help at all and simply blamed me for my PC not working properly!! Telstra (Aust) also gave me the run around and booked me an appointment with a tech guy in two weeks!! Terrible Service from both parties.

If you do not want to rename iTunes library, you can rename file "c:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Sync 3.0\Utility.dll". This will disable bookmark sync and maybe something else. So, better solution is to open this file in hex editor and change one byte, so HTC Sync cannot find “iTunes Music Library.xml” file.

Exit HTC Sync application and make backup of the “Utility.dll” file. Then, open file in a hex editor (i.e. mh-nexus) and find *Unicode* text “iTunes Library xml Location”.

Change any char, so new query mislead search for “iTunes Library Location” in the configuration database. Save file and try to sync your phone.
