Thread: HTC Legend Unlocking

Hi all!! I have just purchased a new Legend which is sim locked to the Vodafone network in the UK. I have purchased an unlock code but when I put a non vodafone sim in to it the prompt to enter the unlock code does not come up and I therefore am unable to unlock it. Anyone got any ideas?

I was REALLY cranky when I got my legend and could not find instructions on how to unlock it. I sat with a vodafone sales guy for over an hour while he tried to get the answer from .... you guessed it, he got a trip around every call centre in the world and still didn't get a satisfactory reply.

Eventually, I got a HTC originated email that said basically ( as I had obtained a vodafone plan that allowed unlockng without buying an unlock key) you just remove the SIM that came with the phone and (in Australia) provided the SIM you want to insert was not a Hutchinson SIM, you just answer the prompts after inserting the SIM, and it should work! I did not try it as the info came about 2 months after I wanted to insert a SIM in the UK. So I paid a handsome price to Vodafone for using my phone overseas for 2 months on the Vodafone supplied SIM. I am NOT impressed, and will put it to the test when I next go to the UK.

OK everyone. I just located the email from HTC...it relates to my phone bought with contract from Vodafone in Australia, so interpret this as you wish

PHONE UNLOCK PROCEDURE
PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT ANY UNLOCK PROCESS
This procedure unlocks the handset from being network restricted from only using SIM cards from Vodafone Australia. In case of difficulties, please refer to the FAQ listed below
1. Take note of the unlocking code shown above.
2. Insert non-Vodafone SIM card (except 3 Hutchison SIM)
3. Ensure the phone is charged and then switch the phone on.
4. Optional Step: If the SIM card has a PIN, enter your PIN number. (See FAQ below).
5. Once the handset is powered up, the handset will then display “Network Locked”. Drag down the screen and the soft touch keypad will pop up. Then enter unlocking code in the prompted areaunder the “SIM network unlock PIN”. Then, tap the ‘OK’ soft key.
6. The handset will now display ‘Requesting network unlock', then the handset main screen will be displayed.

Once the device goes to the main screen, it should be unlocked successfully. This will be confirmed if you can make and receive calls with the Non-Vodafone Australia SIM card. (You will need reception and phone credit with the different network provider)

Please Note:
· If a wrong unlocking code is entered, it will display “Incorrect password” and take back to the unlock screen.
FAQ:
Question: My phone asks to enter a PIN number
Answer: For SIM cards with PIN ENABLED you will be required to enter a PIN. This is not the unlocking code that has just been provided. For information concerning the PIN, PIN2, PUK and PUK2 codes for a SIM card please read the manual that came with your phone. This is not a handset unlocking difficulty.
Question: I am not currently in Australia and experiencing difficulties unlocking the phone that I purchased from a Vodafone Australia outlet
Answer: Clearly note this in the difficulties description. Vodafone Australia can only send a reply to the difficulty by email.

OK, so i am now in the UK (August 2011) and will buy a sim tomorrow and try to follow the instructions .... I'll up date the post when I can.

what is the “SIM network unlock PIN” screnn doesn't show after PUK code screen?
