Default Touch screen typing TERRIBLE on htc desire a8181

I bought a htc desire a8181 a few months ago. I have NEVER been happy with the touch screen's sensitivity for typing. I figured I was just clumsy (!) or it took time to get used to it. My wife has an iphone and I could type clearly and faultlessly from the very first time I used it.

I am very disappointed with this aspect of the htc desire a8181

Can't say I've had a problem with my original Desire, though I struggle on the other half's iPhone 4!

The big plus with Android of course is that you're not Stevie's biatch, so if you're not happy with something, you can just change it.

I believe there are several alternatives available keyboards on the Android market, including one that does the swipe stuff like on the Galaxy S.

Specifically why I got a Desire Z. Loved the physical on my BlackBerry, hated everything else about it, it was the only real choice when I decided I wanted an Android device.

    Swiftkey, Swype, loads of alternatives
Single-handedly saving Desire Z users from qwerty-induced lunacy.

    Most of the time.

Early adopter of the Desire Z. Ask me stuff and I shall know.

Must admit I wasn't too keen on the Wildfire's keyboard when I first got it and found it difficult (didn't help that I had been used to using a resistive one) so have been experimenting with a few from Android market. The one I've settled with is SwiftKey X - brilliant preditictions, saves a lot of time - but there are loads of others to choose from including SlideIT (like Swype), Better, Gingerbread, etc. Apparently there are approx 3,000 keyboard apps on Android market!

well i think it depends on how much you get used to it.. well if you are having a hard time typing on the default keyboard you might find apps that help you type the way you like it..

This is precisely why I went for the HTC desire Z, so I have the option of both the touchscreen keyboard (which I very rarely use) and the flip out which is a lot more manageable.

It's the one thing I'm disappointed with on my Hero, Darren. It always seems over-sensitive, even after going thru Text Input in Touch Input Settings several times. It can sometimes be absolutely infuriating!
