Default cannot send pop3 emails using phone SIM - works with WiFi

Hi I have an S710. It receives my pop3 NTL (Virgin media) emails OK. But I cannot reply or send any. All of the settings look OK. If I enable WiFI it all works OK. any suggestions?

Update: Its down to Virgin Media - they dont support smartphones
so this is what to do . use an SMTP relay agent (AuthSMTP) to relay your sent mails. Change the SMTP setting in your account on the phone. This works fine and the smtp relay account can be set to also forward your sent mails back to your POP3 (or any other account) for future reference.
Watch out for SSL /secure settings in your relay account. Although my phone is set not to use SSL etc it still does ?...
Had the same problem recently with another POP3 account, again used AuthSMTP service and now it works.

Looks like there is some sort of port blocking going on. There is also an XBL/CBL blacklist as you get a dynamic IP from your mobile provider.
    Here is what to do:
Connect your smart phone to your PC (using the USB lead) and use it as a modem (disconnect your RJ45 cable/disable wifi if you are using a laptop)
go to http://www.whatsmyip.net/ and find your true IP address
go to http://www.spamhaus.org/xbl/index.lasso and put your IP address in
check it out and see if it is blocked. Unblock it following the links provided - this takes an hour or so to propogate the www system.
You can also (in a DOS box - do run, command) and telnet into your smtp mailbox
    ie: telnet smtp.yourdomain.com 25 - or use port 587
and see if you get a connection.
You can also use again from the command prompt box run
tracert smtp.yourdomain.com (or may be mail.yourdomain.com etc )
and look at the hops and see if it eventually gets through.

If all else fails use the Authsmtp service - it only take 10mins to set up and you can have 10 email addresses (all with forwarding)

Default Re: cannot send pop3 emails using phone SIM - works with WiFi

I had the same problem connecting to my ntl account via the HTCtouchHD using Orange - it would download and not send. The key is to use your carriers pop address (smtp.orangehome.co.uk) to send and your email servers smtp (pop.ntlworld.com) address to receive.
Dont ask me why but it works :-) I found it on another forum, but cannot remember which...........
