I'm having problems setting up my HTC Smart with my Gmail account. I can see my emails fine, but I can't send them. Does anyone know what settings I need to change so that I can send emails too?
Thanks.

are you talking about the inbuilt gmail application?? if yes, then no, we cannot send an email from that application i guess.. as it uses IMAP/POP3 settings which is just for checking mails/updates within 5kb limit..this is what i think.. maybe i am wrong.. please someone else elaborate
With POP you cant send emails. With IMAP you can. I've sent mails using the in-built mail tool.
A friend of mine has just bought a Smart, he can access the Internet, but when we try to setup a mail account, it accepts everything but always fails the verification stage. I have tried both a hotmail account and a gmail. Any ideas why this should be?
OK, to clarify, as some people seem confused.
IMAP - basically renders a copy of your normal web inbox in your Outlook/mobile etc mail client. As it's a direct copy of your main email account, it also syncs all changes between all clients i.e deletes etc affect all PC's/mobile devices etc - PRO - Keeps all mail clients synchronized CON- but can be slow
POP - Downloads a copy of each mail into your inbox on each device and then all new ones after first complete download. Does not syncronise across all email clients, i.e. delete from one device(mobile) and it will still be on a home PC using Outlook and POP.
SMTP- This is the protocol used for sending mail across the internet between devices.
For your HTC SMART, you will need to enter either POP or IMAP for your incoming mail and SMTP for outgoing mail. Watch those encryption types and port setting, which I believe you find in 'advanced' when setting up an account.
For Gmail you need the following settings:
POP mail:
incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: pop.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS or SSL: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587
Port for SSL: 465
Account Name: your full email address (including @gmail.com or @your_domain.com)
Email Address: your email address (username@gmail.com or username@your_domain.com)
Password: your Gmail password
IMAP:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL: imap.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your full email address (including @gmail.com) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
Email Address: your full Gmail email address (username@gmail.com) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
Password: your Gmail password
Hope this helps anybody struggling.![]()

My Gmail initially worked fine through the in-built interface, but now always displays the message, 'Memory is not enough to continue the operation', despite having plenty of space on the card, and having deleted almost all photos, message and mails from the phone.
Anyone had similar problems or know what to do about this?
