I too have recently bought the Tattoo and experienced identical problems. The customer support at htc have informed me that this device does not have the ability to send/receive data, it only supports the connectivity to headphones and car. The blutetooth facility that is advertised at the point of sale does not reflect this. I suspect following a visit to my local Orange shop today, that they have no idea since they had no idea why my phone would not send/receive files and advised me to contact htp. In fact I overheard one assistant selling the same phone whilst I was there, bluetooth was discussed as a feature.
I shall be back to the shop tomorrow to see what they have to say.

Woah! Thank you so much for the link, even though it is really complicated for the likes of me
Orange shop were helpful (other than the manager) and have suggested I bring the link in and they will give me a hand . . . or two.

This is way over my head, I can tell you! But will let everyone know how we get on.
