Some early PDA devices used to have a second battery to maintain settings etc in the event of a main battery complete drain. As technology moved on that option was dropped for the majority of devices.
Understand the frustration to power up and find you the unit has rest and now you need to do a full installation again :-(My current device is a HTC Touch HD

On Windows Mobile devices at least, devices have moved from storing data on RAM to ROM due to Persistent Memory Storage - the pre HP iPAQ also offered a smiliar yet smaller version of this to store contacts and appointments data as a backup, so it shouldn't happen on the Tattoo.
There is still a "2nd battery" - it is for keeping the clock running in the event of the main battery being removed. One way you can test if the 2nd battery is dead is to turn off the device, remove the main battery, reinsert it and power up: clock will reset (but data remains intact). Unfortunately, this battery cannot be replaced or accessed without taking the device apart.Last edited by Mesquire; 04-25-2010 at 08:00 AM.
