Default All I want is Wifi!

    Hi Guys

I'm a recent addition to the HTC family - I picked up a Touch 3G on a nifty Orange contract the other day.

The main thing that attracted me to the HTC was the inclusion of a Wifi receiver in the phone - I did not want to pay for internet subscription and I thought it would be simple enough to configure the phone settings to disable any other type of internet connection..

But it hasn't been so far. So I'll forget what I've tried so far and will listen intently to anyone who can tell me!

As the title suggests, all I want from my phone is to be able pick up the internet when in a Wifi hotspot - and at no other time - so I don't waste money.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

There is a program called NoData - you should be able to Google for a download.

If you don't want install anything, there is an alternative - configure your phone not to use your mobile network connection. Go to Settings > Connections > Connections > [Select Networks] in Advanced and choose My ISP ...

If "My ISP" is not present, or, in some cases, if it has been configured by your mobile operator to use their networks, you can create your own by clicking [New] and just give it any name you like (in the example I used "local area connection" - it's basically a dummy connection with no mobile network configuration.

There is a flaw to this method, however. Certain applications (like Java runtime on devices: Midlet Manager, JBlend) have their own network settings which bypass this network setting to use the mobile operator's network, so you will have to configure these applications manually to "My ISP".

What you need to do is press the menu button click on setting then click on wireless controls and in the file is wifi, turn it on, then under that file is Wifi-Settings, then add Wifi- networks

Mesquire, I have set my Connections to 'My ISP' as you suggested. Always before starting Opera I turn wi-fi on. But still when starting Opera I can see web'n'walk logo (T-mobile's internet network). Does it mean it still goes through T-mobile's network and not wi-fi or I shouldn't bother the logo?

Try googling and download Modaco NoData mentioned in the first paragraph of my initial reply.

There is a new program similar to NoData: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=610657

I'm not using T-mobile so I can't comment on the web 'n walk logo you see. Perhaps you can capture an image of the situation in question and post it here so we can look at it?

I use Ilium Software Screen Capture. It's free.

I have loaded the Ilium program to my HD2 but on the options page it doesn't show any keys that can be used for screen capture.
Looking for help on the Ilium site indicates that "your device is not recognised and our programs may not work with it"

Isn't the "Send" button supported? The software was written when wm phones had extra hardware buttons than the ones these days - no thanks to stupid iPhone, and the only button I can use to activate screen capture on my Pro2 is the SEND button (i.e., the phone's ANSWER hardware button)

If you still can't get Ilium Software Screen Capture to work on HD2, try ShakeAndSave, in which you shake your phone to capture the image.

Images are saved to this folder: My Device\ShakeAndSave

    Hi Mesquire
I did these steps, but when I backed out of the system then went back in, the Sprint settings were back. I keep deleting them, but they keep showing up. I also just want the wifi, but Sprint is having a field day chargewise with me until I get this figured out.
