How do you set the port number?
I'm trying to set up my TD2 for O2 internet with PAYG. without success. I've put in most of the required parameters (APN etc), but I'm also told I need a specific port number and I can't find how to set this. Help please??

Re: How do you set the port number?
Hi Peter
I have O2 PayandGo Internet connectivity and as far as I can see is that under 'Settings' where your connection is set up under the 'Modem' tab you will see 2 other tabs; 'General' & 'Proxy Settings'. You need to set up the Proxy Settings by checking BOTH check boxes and then entering the IP Address of the Proxy Server in the box provided. You then should tap the ADVANCED box which should redisplay the sever details just entered but also provide another box to the right labeled 'Port' and it is there that you enter the Port No., which in this case should be '8080'. Then click OK in the top right of the screen. You should then have not only the HTTP but also the WAP, Secure WAP & Sock boxes and I believe that you need to enter the same Proxy IP Address in the WAP & Secure WAP boxes with a Port = 9201. Then tap OK in the top right of the screen, and then tap OK twice more to get you to the Connections tab under 'Settings'. The tap 'X' in the top right of the screen to go back to the standby screen. Finally Soft Reset your device before testing.
Hope that helps? If not post back.
Cheers

Re: How do you set the port number?
Hi Balders,
Many thanks for your reply. After looking at various forum posts (including this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534512)
I eventually got it to work very much as you described (although I left the WAP and Secure WAP entries blank).
For anyone else's benefit (since no two recommended sequences seem to be exactly the same!) here's what worked for me (this is on an htc TD2, with WM 6.1, and O2 payandgo internet):
Settings/All Settings/Connections/Connections
- Manage existing connections
- mobile web (I actually changed the work connection to mobile web, and now only that appears on the first connections screen). On the second screen there's a choice between Auto pick, mobile web, and My Connection. Select mobile web, Edit
- Name for connection: mobile web. Select a modem: Cellular line (GPRS, 3G) greyed out. Next
- APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk Next
- username: payandgo. Password: password. Domain leave blank.
- Advanced; check use server-assigned IP address. ok
- Finish. Need then to soft reset (power off and on).
- Back to screen where you select mobile web. Select Proxy Settings tab.
- Check This network connects to the internet
- Also check "uses a proxy server". Enter 193.113.200.195
- Advanced
- HTTP check and enter 193.113.200.195, port number 8080
Thanks again!
Peter
