    Default Swollen battery.

I have had my HTC Touch Diamond 2 for about 2 and a half years now. I didn't use it between May and October last year, so it just sat in a drawer in that period. However, when I wanted to start using it again back in October, I noticed that the battery was completely swollen up. It even bulged the battery cover on the back.
It still worked though, but since I didn't trust it, I put it away again and used my back-up phone.
A couple of weeks ago I took it out again, and the swelling was almost completely gone. There's still a small bump on the battery, but it's hardly noticeable. The phone still works the same as it did back in May last year.

I was wondering if anyone knows how this could have been caused and if it's okay to use it or if there's a safety risk.

    Extra information:
    OS: Windows Mobile(r) 6.5 Professional
Installed apps: ProOnGo Expense, iFitOne, BEIKS Dictionary, TagReader, CorePlayer.

Any other information required, just ask.

    Thanks on beforehand,
    Rik

hey i got the same problem, except that i own a p3470...i've not used it for quite some time and i noticed that the battery was warped and swollen and not holding a single charge. a friend of mine got the same problem but he overcharged the battery too often. i think htc batteries are not reliable and they should not be charged too often. anyways am getting a new battery 2day itself

It is normal for battery to behave this way, it simple means the battery life is going to end soon and advisable to get a replacement. Handphone batteries are designed to have a recharge cycle of approximately 500times. If you intent not to use the device for more then 2weeks, it is advisable to drain the battery fully and remove from the phone and store it in a dry and cool place. Else it will shorten the life of the battery. Hope this is useful for you.
