Default Problems getting pictures to PC

(EDIT: problem now solved but this may help someone else)

    Hi everyone,

I recently bought an HTC Touch (version 1) and I love it.

So I am trying to get the photos I recently took with the device onto my PC (XP), but I keep just getting this error:

Cannot copy IMAG0002: Access is denied.
Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read-only, and that you have permission to copy the file type.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

The memory card is only half full, and I have about 13Mb free of both 'storage' and 'program' memory on the device. The photos are viewable on the device, and the error occurs for all files on the device (not just on the storage card). I'm not sure how to set (or un-set) read-only, nor how to manage permissions. My firewall is disabled. I am just 'exploring' the device (to Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA) but I can only see my images as icons, not thumbnails, and the above error occurs while trying to drag and drop (or copy and paste) any files onto the desktop.

For what it is worth - and I don't know whether this is relevant - I have only used ActiveSync once, and it seemed a bit problematic but eventually I got there and was able to sync my contacts. Today it took ages and many attempts to connect. At first I could only connect if I had deselected 'Enable advanced network functionality' in Settings>Connections>USB to PC. Then I reselected it and eventually it connected by itself.

I'm worried that I may have inadvertently changed an important connection setting recently while trying to prevent the device from automatically connecting with GPRS when out of WiFi range (and as a supplementary question, is there a proper way to do this?)

I have googled and searched this site but don't seem able to find a solution.

Many thanks in advance for any help!

I tested the Touch on another computer and it had the same problem (despite using clean installs of ActiveSync 4.5). I didn't have any other ideas and I was too impatient to wait for responses here so I did a hard reset of the Touch (start>settings>system>clear storage) and that solved the problem. Fortunately I had all my contacts backed up with Outlook, and most of my stuff is on the memory card so I didn't lose much in the reset.

It looks like under some circumstances, ActiveSync is able to connect and browse the device without being able to actually sync or transfer files.

not sure what the problem might be. Typically what I do is connect my phone and sync with Activesync. From there I click on the "Browse" button which opens the file explorer and then I navigate, delete, copy whatever I want.

My only suggestion would be to get a USB card reader (which is about 20 times faster) and just stick your memory card in there. I typically use the card reader to transfer larger video and music files to my 8GB card.
