Hi guys and gals.
I've been having this very same problem for the last week and had tried everything I could think of short of a hard reset to try and fix it; I was reluctant to do a hard reset as I'd just spent a lot of time tweaking my shiny new HD2 (which I love, by the way) and didn't want to lose all that hard work.
Anyway, whilst this may be a little late for some of you, I have found the solution - or at least a solution which worked for me - and the good news is it takes about 30 seconds to apply and and doesn't require a hard reset:
Using file explorer on the device find and then delete the music-library file: Application Data/HTC/AudioManager_Eng/AudioManager_Eng.vol (the file is hidden). The next time you hit the music tab the file is rebuilt and you should be able to access all your music using the Music Player tab. Clearly, try this at your own risk but all I can say is it worked for me.
Whilst I'd love to take the credit for this, I have to say I found the answer on the excellent xda-developers forum.
