Default Email Home screen - double up accounts

I'm the IT guy at our company so I'm also the de facto fix every gadget that people randomly buy...
A user has come to me with his HTC HD, he added his ISP mail settings and receives his email happily, he has "just" noticed that there is a 2nd Icon on the Email home screen which displays his ISP's messages, but if we click on "inbox" it takes us to the Select an Account screen in Messaging. If we click "inbox" on the 1st icon it takes us to the Inbox.
We have removed the ISP account but the phantom account is still there - the screen displays the envelope with the ISP's details on the bottom of the envelope.

On another note - there is another "@" icon that when clicked just displays the words: "No Messages" I'm not sure what that is for either...maybe another phantom account somewhere.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

not sure what you mean by 2nd icon. it would help to see a screen image so we know to what you are referring. i have a HD at work at the moment so i can compare with it if possible.

Thanks for you reply, I've attached 4 photos:
goodAccount.jpg - this shows the email account that works fine
phantomAccount.jpg - shows the 2nd icon, the phantom account
emptyPhantomAccount.jpg - shows the 3rd icon with "No Message"
messagingScreen.jpg - shows the accounts setup on the phone
