    Default Various problems with TP2

Just got a new HTC Touch Pro 2
I do like some aspects of the phone but there are quite a few problems I have with it.

    1. After accessing the internet with Opera, I find GPRS remains enabled for about an hour after closing the browser. I did check the "Quick Menu" to ensure I did shut down the browser and it does not reflect any browser still being on. I called the Hotline and as usual, they say that cannot be helped. The only way out is to shut down the phone and restart it. Wtf?

    2. Cannot do Windows Update. Again I contacted HTC. Got the usual answer - can't do anything about it.

    3. The Alarm clock's not reliable. Sometimes it rings, sometimes it rings like once then the screen that gives me the option of choosing "Snooze" or "Dismiss" comes on and the phone remains quiet.

    4. The Opera browser does not support Adobe Flash. No plugin to download. If download other makes of Opera 9.5 or 9.7, the Zoom bar dun work and the irritating screen keyboard pops up all the time even when the keyboard is slided out.

    5. The Internet Explorer supports flash. That's great. But the Zoom bar is erratic when using the Internet Explorer. It is near impossible to use the Zoom bar with this program.

I hope the above issues I have are just ignorance on my part since I'm new to the phone and have been avoiding WM like the plague after my bad experience with it years ago.
No wonder so many ppl are switching to the iPhone...

By the way, the Hotline is rather irritating to access too.
The automated message demands you key in your IMEI number followed by the "Pong" key. What the hell is the "Pong" key?? Maybe it is a country thing, but in Singapore, we call it the "Hex" key.
After you choose "English", the support staff comes on and I have to say, they are very patient, polite and pleasant.
But they speak English only haltingly and can't hardly understand English!

Not sure why that is an issue - your cellphone always has a data connection to the network, so the data connection will remain enabled but go into low power mode (dark icon instead of white icon) - unless yours stays with a bright white icon for an hour after you use it?

Try using the USB connection to your computer - it works for me there after a few retries. Both the Pro and Pro2 do not work for me over the air or over WiFi for some reason. Does anyone have any ideas?

I agree with the Opera and IE complaints - however that has nothing to do with HTC. Opera 9.7 is still in beta and is buggy so they couldn't include it (don't know why it doesn't have the zoom bar support though). IE5 is not going to be repaired since WM6.5 is due out very soon and HTC will provide the update which will fix a lot of the underlying issues. Skyfire is pretty good but again doesn't have the zoom bar support and both SkyFire and Opera 9.7 crash a fair amount for me.

    My biggest complaints are:

    1) Touchscreen stops responding about once a day - phone still works but I can't even power the phone off because the confirmation dialog requires touchscreen input. I have to yank the battery and reboot to get the touchscreen to work again.

    2) Calendar reminders can only be SNOOZEd now - no option to set how long to snooze. This was still there with the Pro, so they removed the option for Pro2 - why?

    3) System memory info no longer shows RAM - why was this removed? Pro had it!

    4) Timeout value for "today screen" doesn't seem to be used - if the unit turns off due to inactivity it will ALWAYS return to the TouchFlo screen regardless of what I was doing or how long ago I was doing it. Rather a pain if I'm reading a website and look away for a few seconds then come back and have to reload the browser because TouchFlo always takes foreground.

I haven't had any issues with the alarm clock but I think I'm switching to Klaxon anyway (http://pockethacks.com/klaxon-g-sensor- ... touch-pro/) which is a pretty cool one.

My internet connection also stays open and am unable to close it off. The phone seems to use my contract internet even when i am connected to my home internet via wifi?????

Is there no way of making it use wifi when availible?

    Thx,

    Dave

    I'm using g-alarm now.
So far pretty pleased with it.
Also got the problem of the open GPRS thing kinda sorted out.
After I log onto the internet, I have to consciously remember to go into Settings --> Communications --> Data Connection and disable it.
The next time I try to access the internet again, it logs on to GPRS no prob.
I didn't like the GPRS to be connected cos I believe it drains the battery even if in standby mode.

I don't have the prob of my phone trying to use the contract internet or GRPS if connected via WiFi so can't help you there..
I don't seem to have the problem of my Touchscreen not responding either. Maybe you got some kinda software incompatibility?

    I also tried Skyfire.
Would seem like a good solution but I found the graphics rather bad.
As far as I know, Skyfire does not have a version that supports WVGA as yet, so the graphics on the Pro2 are rather inferior.
