Thread: Can anybody get the keyboard to work?

I've had this phone for a few months and have been almost totally unable to use the slideout keyboard for anything useful. I'm beginning to think my phone is defective, and if that's the case I need to deal with it. I bought the phone for a slide-out keyboard and so far I've been unable to use it. My previous phone was an Verizon XV6700 with a slide-out keyboard which I loved!

The slide-out keyboard does something different and stupid with every application I've tried. Sometimes it does nothing, sometimes it continues the same letter like I've pressed and held a key.

I can do nothing useful with it. I read my yahoo email through one of several browsers, and the slideout keyboard doesn't work with that. Today I installed a notes application (notepad is totally useless) and although I can enter letters, the space bar doesn't work.

That's besides the stupid HTC spell check, which I admit I totally don't understand! Is it possible to turn that off? Maybe the entire problem is due to that?

I do have touch flo turned off and intend to keep it that way.

Have you tried rebooting the device? If all is ok after the reboot, it could be a software conflict. I get strange behaviour on mine after running several days of use - one of which is the spell check, it shouldn't come out normally when the hardware keyboard is active.

You should consider backing up your data and perform a hard reset to return the device to the first day you bought it and if it still exhibit the same problem, then you should ask for a repair.

I was able to get it to work with some applications today, after a soft reset (it must have been in a "state"), but I would like to ask can anyone get it to work with Opera Mini. I would dearly love to be able to use Opera Mini because it's the only way I know to reasonably use Yahoo email on this phone. It is with Opera Mini that it goes completely bezerk. Opera Mini has its very own keypad thing, which may be the problem.

The easiest way to write mail using the keyboard seems to be with the built-in mail application, where the keyboard works OK. I have another mail service I can use as a server to send mail. It's not acceptable to do yahoo mail with pop because I have to be able to see my folders. This doesn't seem natural, but it's do-able. Yes, I know there is imap for real yahoo email, but I have verizon.net, for which there seems to be no imap. Besides, I like the yahoo interface to mail.

I also downloaded a note application today and the keyboard worked with it (after the reset). But that doesn't help with Opera Mini because although it has cut and paste, it seems to be only within its own application. If I copy outside of Opera Mini, it doesn't "see" anything to paste. I guess if you don't have a java phone, this really isn't going to work right...

Does anyone use Yahoo mail on this phone? They've dropped Yahoo Go, which I used on my XV7600, and liked a LOT. The only reasonable interface now seems to be java based phones, iphone and blackberry.

I have similar problem with the sliding keyboard. When I open it, the phone hangs and nothing works. I have no way but to hard reset. Even then, the phone boots up normally, but the sliding keyboards again malfunctions. Any suggestions from members how to rectify this is welcome.
