Default Why are contacts names not appearing in All Messages text in box?

Despite several phone calls to HTC and my network provider, they can't solve the problem with my phone.

My Wildfire was replaced last week with the Wildfire S following a series of software issues. For some reason, only some of my contacts names & facebook links are showing in my SMS inbox - I'm just getting their phone number. It's not all the contacts, but a growing number leaving me with a string of unidentified phone numbers...

I've tried completely deleting a contact and putting it back in; waiting for them to text and adding to contacts; I've triple checked the numbers... I've exported, imported... and run out of options!! All those with problems worked before on my old phone, and as I say it's not all the contacts.

My network says it's HTC, HTC says it's my phone (on contract from Network) - whatever is anyone else experiencing this, and any suggestions please (before it goes in the bin!).

    Just a long shot.

I too have returned missed calls to unknown numbers only to find they are friends. The difference being that when their call arrives, it's preceded by +44, when they are in my Contacts as beginning with 0.

Could it be that the calling number ID version of the number disagrees with what's in your Contacts list and therefore the phone can't cross-reference them?

    Default Problem work around

I have the same problem where a contacts name won't show in my text inbox. My quick work around is to call the number from the text and then it shows up.
I think it might have something to do with the 'Primary Number' that you assign to a contact. If the number in the text isn't the primary number it won't show till you call it. Once I have assigned the primary number to be the same as the text it seems to work ok

Based on what my understanding is of how the comparison between the call and the address book works I carried out the following today. In the wildfire s I modified the contact number of my 2nd phone, originally it was 085abcdefg, to abcdefg, this resulted in no match. I then remodified to 5abcdefg this generated a match, conclusion is that it looks like the match is carried out on the last 8 digits so the 44 prefix should not cause a problem. You should be able to carry out a similar check to verify this.

    Red face Try this....

I had the same issue, all numbers appearing with no names in messages... try this as this is how I fixed mine...

    * Delete any one of the contacts who has sent you a SMS (keep the SMS)
    * Once contact deleted, go to the SMS from that contact and click on the number
    * You'll get few options, select which says 'Add Contact'
    * Add the details/Create that contact

Go back to SMS Inbox and you should be able to see the names.

    Hopefully this works for you...

Default Nice to see a recent thread for this!

    Hi there

Having the same problem that for most of my contacts, the name and photo comes up fine. However, there were two or three where it didn't work. Sometimes, though, their Facebook name and image would show up, but this seems pretty random. So I've been trying to find a solution for months now since I got my phone. These are the steps I tried:

    1) Go into contact, change number from +44 to 0, or vice versa.
    2) Delete contact, then Add Contact again from the text message.

This is what worked for me ONCE:

    3) Turn phone off, remove battery and SIM, replace them and then turn it on. The first time I tried it, when I turned the phone back on, the contact was suddenly showing the name and the photo I'd assigned for them and I thought all was well.

However, then I got the same problem with a different contact. No matter how many attempts I made to resave/edit the contact, either their name and pic wouldn't show up at all, or they would only appear as a Facebook contact, not as a Phonebook contact. I once again restarted the phone, and lo and behold the contact that I'd previously fixed the problem for has cone back to having the same issue!

So I'm here also trying to find a different solution. I know that having their Facebook image is better than nothing, but I've assigned photos to each person and would prefer consistency across all my contacts. Not a huge issue, but still annoying. Anyone got any more ideas?
