    Default "unable to copy contacts from your device"

    Get this error when trying to use HTCSynch to synch to my desktop Outlook. Happens as well to Calendar items.

    Anyone else experienced this?

    In Outlook
    Go to File > Import and Export > Export to a file > Comma Separated Values (Windows), then select the folder you want to export.
    Type a name for the exported file and click Next
    If you are using a language other than English, it is highly recommended you click Map Custom Fields to ensure that your data is matched properly.
    After clicking Finished, your file will have been created on your computer. Unless you selected a different location to save it in, the file will now be in your My Documents folder in your computer.
    This will create a file that Gmail can import.

    -> For Contacts:

    Log in to Gmail. If you do not have a Gmail account, you may sign up for an account right from your phone.
    Click Contacts, located on the bottom of the panel on the left.
    Click Import in the Contact Manager.
    Click Browse... or Choose File and locate the CSV file just created. Unless you selected a different location to save it in, the file will now be in your My Documents folder in your computer.
    Select the file and click Import.
    -> For Calendars:

    Open Google Calendar
    Click Add in Other calendars on the left side of the window.
    Click Import Calendar in Calendar settings
    Click Browse and select your exported file and locate the CSV file just created. Unless you selected a different location to save it in, the file will now be in your My Documents folder in your computer.
    Select the file and click Import.
    After this, simply log into your Gmail account from your phone and your contacts and calendars will automatically sync to your phone wirelessly.

    NOTE 1: You need an internet connection (Wi-Fi, GPRS/3G, etc.) to access this service. Your operator may charge for using GPRS/3G.

    NOTE 2: Gmail limits you to 3000 contacts in one CSV file at a time. If you have more than 3000 contacts, you can use multiple CSV files to complete the import.

    NOTE 3: This is an import of your contacts and calendars from Outlook, and changes made on your phone and/or Gmail will not be reflected in your Outlook. Gmail and your phone, however, will be continuously synced and changes will be reflected.

    I am having the same issue. Get the same error message. Neither calendar or contacts are syncing on my Thunderbolt. sync was fine yesterday. Help. Please.

    PS. Thanks for the tip MR, but that is not an acceptable work around for daily business use.

    I have the same problem. At first it was intermittant and rebooting phone (HTC Sensation) or PC solved the problem, but now it always fails with the message we all get "unable to copy contacts from your device". I've also had some other troubles like entering a calendar item on the phone does not get copied to Outlook and I'm pretty sure it has deleted some of my contacts, but since I'm a new user perhaps I just had fat fingers...

    Anyone have any suggestions? HTC Hello?

    I don't know if this will help. When I added an appointment on my phone and did a sync the appointment did not transfer over to my pc Outlook 2007...so, I called HTC and spoke to a wonderful young man in less then 1 mintue he solved my problem. Here is what he had me do:

    1. go to the calendar on your phone
    2. hit menu and click on more
    3. select calendars ....
    4. there is a list of calendars...I made sure there was a check mark in PC Sync and removed the check marks in the gmail and hotmail calendars as I never use that (it's wireless)

    My phone transfers all of my appointments that I entered on it directly over to my PC. Take the time to call HTC when you have an issue. Their techs are extremely helpful and nice. Hope this helps.

    Also this nice gentleman told me that as of this time HTC does not have a fix for the problems we all are having with syncing our Outlook contacts with the phone. Hopefully that will be taken care of. I changed all my contacts in Outlook to the last name field and entered the full name for say John Smith to Smith-John in the last name area and now they stay put on Outlook and my phone.
