HTC Sync 2.0.8 does not start on Windows XP S3
Dear all,
I have the following problem and I would like to get your expertise on it:
Today I installed HTC Sync 2.0.8 on my computre (in order to communicate with my HTC Hero device). The OS of the computer is Windows XP SP3. I have Windows Address Book on it (Outlook express). When I try to start the application (i.e. HTC Sync), I only get an empty warning. By empy warning a mean a little OK dialog with a warning sign but no text at all! So, the program does not start. When I press the dialog, nothing happens (the dialog just disappears).
Could anyone please help me solve this mystery? Many thanks in advance and happy new year 2010!
Kind regards,
Alex

Are you running mcafee by any chance?
Known issue is that they don't go together.OMGWTFBBQ! Check out the amazing feature this forum has: Search! - Remember, Bricking your HTC isn't an achievement.

Hi JaapStar,
Thanks for your post. No, actually I am running Avira AntiVir (Personal). Might this be the problem??
Kind regards,
Alex

Yes. Try to remove antivir completely. Post your results, since i'm curious what the outcome will be.

Re: HTC Sync 2.0.8 does not start on Windows XP S3
Ok, so here is the result. I completely completely removed Avira Antivir. To be sure, I also removed Nokia PC Suite. Then I removed HTC Sync and installed it again. The result was completely the same. When launching, I only see an empy warning dialog. Nothing else. So strange.
Btw, I have installed HTC Sync on my other computer running also on Windows XP SP3. There I have F-Secure 2010. HTC Sync start there but does not work (cannot be connected to the mobile device). And before that, when I start my comp, I get some kind for warning related to HTC Sync (Visual C++ debugger warns me). But if I unload F-Secure, then restart my computer (after which F-Secure is loaded and working normally), HTC Sync starts operating normally. So, each time I switch off my computer, I have to unload F-Secure first. Kind of strange...
Regards,
Alex

Re: HTC Sync 2.0.8 does not start on Windows XP S3
Kind of understandable. Your HTC, through HTC Sync, acts as an modem. F-secure prevents unauthorised acces to a modem by programs you have not explicitly allowed to use that modem, like HTC Sync. To avoid this problem, you will have to make an exception rule in F-secure for HTC Sync. I don't really know how exactly, but go through the options of F-Secure, and i'm sure you'll be able to find out.

Hi there!

I am running McAfee and cannot get HTC Sync to install correctly. Is there a work-around besides uninstalling McAfee? I have disabled it as best I know how.
Please help!

If anyone has this same problem just roll back to service pack 2 by deleting Windows service pack 3 in add remove programmes in control panel.
